1995-2015: twenty years of Selecta, twenty years of italian custom made design
Lema has always been the ideal partner, through which home customisation is fully completed. The company’s DNA is closely linked to the manufacturing of bespoke systems, for the living and the bedroom area: #lema was the first Italian company to develop in the 1978 a bespoke load-bearing side-panel system available in different finishes, produced on an industrial scale, the Tito Agnoli’s Scaffale that has evolved during the years, becoming Selecta. A proper revolution: a custom-made system, for the first time with the quality and costs of an industrial product, a milestone in Lema’s history that still informs its core business based on modular systems like bookcases, wardrobes and walk-in closets .
Library par excellence, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2015, Selecta was the first product to combine hand-crafted details on wood, with a series of technical innovations that still make it today one of the most versatile shelving systems.
With its flexibility of composition, finishes, and arrangements, Selecta is comparable to a hand-built product, benefitting at the same time by the superior quality of modern industrialisation.
Brand’s icon, Selecta is a constantly evolving system, a piece of architecture, thought to display books and objects, able to expand within the framework of a perfect geometry system and the creativity of a flexible structure. A highly customized proposal to furnish any space, residential or public, to render the walls dynamic transforming them into a scene of rhythmic orderliness designed to order and exhibit. The modular nature of its elements enables infinite made-to measure compositions. Service areas and passageways, double heights spaces attics, areas close to stairs are not constraints but opportunities: Selecta, due to its versatility and the wide range of finishes, sizes and forms are suitable for any kind of project and solve architecturally complex problems. Thanks to the available technologies and solutions, Selecta is ideal for designing compositions containing the TV and audio systems, real multifunctional walls. Richness and quality of the finish provide a high level customization: 40 lacquered colors from Lemacolortrend, carbone oak or tobacco oak are available for all components of this line and glossy lacquered only for some details. Glasses can be etched, transparent, reflecting or lacquered.

It was decided early on that the production was to be internally managed, from receiving the raw materials to designing the packaging. This also includes the entire production cycle for the panels, core component of Lema’s iconic wardrobe and shelving systems. Today, among the best interpreters of the Italian style worldwide, #lema was founded in 1970 by the Meroni family, which still manages it, strong of a tradition that dates back to the early post-war years. Lema was the first Italian firm to develop a load-bearing side-panel system in a variety of finishes and the “Armadio al centimetro” made- to-measure wardrobe, to suit every customer’s need.
