MXGP - Rockstar Energy Suzuki, Coldenhoff sixth at Lombardia MXGP

Rockstar Energy #suzuki Europe’s #glenncoldenhoff was Suzuki’s main representative in the premier class of the 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship at Mantova today for the Grand Prix of #lombardia and the Dutchman rode his #rmz450 to sixth position overall through the Italian sand and in front of 18,000 people.

The Rockstar #suzuki Energy World #mxgp team was struck by misfortune when #kevinstrijbos aggravated his right thumb through a heavy landing in practice on Saturday and the Belgian went to hospital that same evening where a broken ligament was confirmed requiring surgery and ending his 2015 campaign.

It was left to Coldenhoff to push ‘yellow’ as far-up-the-front of the #mxgp field as possible through the two motos run in front of 18,000 fans at the compact and largely flat (and jump-laden) layout. He managed a mediocre start in the first #moto and slotted into eighth on the first lap. He then chipped away to pass Jose Butron and Dean Ferris and was catching Shaun Simpson for fifth.

The second #moto saw the 24 year old in faster form. He joined the group of Simpson, Evgeny Bobryshev, Max Nagl and Gautier Paulin tussling for third place and moved to the front of the gaggle when a small crash set him back to seventh and he had to regain ground to finally take fifth.

Coldenhoff picked up 31 points in Italy and now has 321 which grants him ninth position in the standings.

With Strijbos and Clement Desalle on the injury sidelines at Mantova there was hope among the stricken Belgian factory team that the former will at least be able to make a recovery this week to consider entering the Grand Prix of the Netherlands at Assen next weekend; a meeting that will be the last #mxgp fixture on European soil before Mexican and American dates in September.

News of the ligament problem has put paid to those aspirations and Strijbos will have an operation in Belgium on Monday.

Glenn Coldenhoff:

“It was a good day. Shame about the crash in the second #moto because I really felt good. The track was a bit slower and rougher; just how I like it. A sixth and a fifth in Italy is pretty good. I knew I was the only #suzuki rider but I just did my own thing and didn't feel any extra pressure. I will do my best for the rest of the season and I hope I can keep this line of form going.”
