It’s halftime in the 2015 DTM season this coming weekend (31st July - 2nd August) as the Mercedes-AMG DTM drivers contest Rounds 9 and 10 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. For Austria’s Lucas Auer (BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM), Spielberg is a home race. The track: The 4,326-metre Red Bull Ring is the second-longest circuit on the DTM calendar. It has three long straights and seven corners as well as many variations in track elevation. With its long straights and heavy braking zones, the Red Bull Ring demands a good all-round package. Comments ahead of the DTM races at Spielberg Gary Paffett (34, England): Car number: 2 Team: EURONICS/BWT Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team ART) Car: EURONICS Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM “I am really looking forward to Spielberg. Zandvoort was encouraging and disappointing at the same time. The speed was there, but I didn’t manage to get the result that we wanted. However, Spielberg should be a good circuit for us. Last year, the performance was there. Based on our recent form and speed, we can go to Austria looking to hopefully get on the podium.” Paul di Resta (29, Scotland): Car number: 3 Team: SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team HWA) Car: Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM “I’m looking forward to the weekend. Spielberg is obviously a track that should suit us very well and help us to get over Zandvoort. I think we should be in for a repeat of our performance last year, especially in terms of speed. Everybody is highly motivated to rise to the challenge ahead, and so am I.” Robert Wickens (26, Canada): Car number: 6 Team: SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team HWA) Car: SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM “I feel like I have some unfinished business from Spielberg last year. We got the pole position last time, and my expectations are high of having two strong results this weekend. Zandvoort was a disaster, and the whole team is motivated to turn our fortunes around.” Christian Vietoris (26, Germany): Car number: 8 Team: gooix/Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team HWA) Car: Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM “After Zandvoort, where we left with a reasonably good result, I’m looking forward to Spielberg. I think that we will be stronger there than in Holland. The track should suit our car. There are lots of slow corners, but also a couple of long straights where it’s possible to overtake. For those reasons, I think that Spielberg will also be entertaining for the spectators. In any case, we’ll be going there feeling confident.” Daniel Juncadella (24, Spain): Car number: 12 Team: PETRONAS Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team Mücke) Car: PETRONAS Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM “I’m feeling well prepared for the upcoming DTM races. Last week, I was at the 24 Hours of Spa, which was a lot of fun. Spielberg has always been a good track for me in the past – I’ve won races there in Formula 3. It’s one of my favourite circuits on the DTM calendar, so it’s high time that I secured a good result there in the DTM. My target for this year is to finish on the podium. So far, I haven’t managed to do that. If we can carry over our performance from the last two or three race weekends, we have a good chance of a top result in Austria. I'll be fighting hard for this.” Lucas Auer (20, Austria): Car number: 22 Team: EURONICS/BWT Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team ART) Car: BWT Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM “I’m really looking forward to my home race at Spielberg. This will certainly be a great weekend. I’ve already had plenty of success on this track in Formula 3. That may not count for a lot this time, but at least it gives me extra motivation for the race weekend. Let’s wait and see what comes out of it in the end. I think that Mercedes-Benz will be competitive, as indeed on all tracks. We have to work hard and then hopefully get a good result.” Maximilian Götz (29, Germany): Car number: 84 Team: PETRONAS Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team Mücke) Car: Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM “It’s always really cool to compete at Spielberg. The atmosphere, the scenery, the girls in Dirndl (which, as a Bavarian, I always like to see!) and also of course my Austrian fan club – these all contribute to my anticipation of the weekend. In addition, I have fond memories of Spielberg. In recent years, I have consistently been successful there in GT racing. I hope that’s a good omen. In any case, I want to carry on where I left off in Zandvoort. With a good qualifying result and hopefully my first points. Adding a little extra motivation, it’s my father’s sixtieth birthday. A good result would be a great birthday present.” Pascal Wehrlein (20, Germany): Car number: 94 Team: gooix/Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG (Mercedes-AMG DTM Team HWA) Car: gooix Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM “After our trip to Zandvoort, I had the opportunity to spend a weekend at home with my family and friends. I was very happy about that. Immediately afterwards, we were off to La Manga for our DTM Fitness Week. I’m feeling well prepared for Spielberg and really looking forward to the track. Over the last few years, I’ve always managed to get good results there. But after having to retire from last year’s race, I’ve got some unfinished business with Spielberg and I’m really looking forward to finally getting back in the car.” Ulrich Fritz, Head of Mercedes-AMG DTM: “I think that the races at Spielberg will be another important indicator for us. We lead the team standings and are also well placed in the drivers’ and manufacturers’ championships. The objective for the coming weekend is to score the maximum number of points. Last year, we displayed good performance at the Red Bull Ring but didn’t reap any reward because of penalties. So you could say that we have some unfinished business there. The fans in Spielberg are always fantastic, and our team – Lucas in particular as an Austrian – will certainly enjoy excellent support.”
