Press release available only in Italian
Salgado's works capture each time the light and the darkness of the sky and of the existence, the tenderness and the feeling that coexist with the harshness and cruelty. Salgado went to look for a forgotten corner of the Americas, making a prism through which can be seen the continent as a whole. [...] Salgado is the creator of an archive, the guardian of a world, which celebrates the insulation. He aims to arouse emotions and contradictory problems. And also in this case, he succeeds in full.
Alan Riding
Sebastião has become a great photographer, but he continues to be a militant, an activist peaceful to the other side of the mirror to change the course of things, making the world more beautiful and restore dignity to those who inhabit it.
Claude Nori
Contrasto publishes for the first time in Italy Altre Americhe, the legendary first book of Sebastião Salgado.
Benchmark for photo documentation, the Italian edition of Altre Americhe contains the original texts of Claude Nori, which tells the genesis of the book, Sebastião Salgado, Gonzalo Torrente Ballester, and the introduction to the American edition of Alan Riding.
