WSBK, WSS, STK1000 - Game, Set & Match for Sykes and Badovini
WorldSBK riders get the better of competitive STK1000 duo in Beach Tennis Pre-Event.
For the #MisanoWorldSBK Pre-Event, a Beach Tennis event was arranged at the local resort of Misano Adriatico with leading riders of WorldSBK, WSS and STK1000 going head to head in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the waters edge.
The ‘Spiaggia libera’ in piazzale Roma in Misano Centro was well attended and the invited WorldSBK Davide Giugliano (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati SBK Team), Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia), Matteo Baiocco (Althea Racing), Niccolo Canepa (Althea Racing), Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team), Jordi Torres (Apriia Racing Team – Red Devils), Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Superbike Team), Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) together with World Supersport and Superstock riders Lorenzo Zanetti (MV Agusta Reparto Corse), Lorenzo Savadori (Nuova M2 Racing) and Roberto Tamburini (Team MotoxRacing) were keen to put on a show, which they did.
After a series of matches it was the Savadori / Tamburini pairing who progressed to the final where they faced former World Champion Tom Sykes & Ayrton Badovini. The Italian STK1000 duo just lost out to their superbike rivals with the final serve of the match as the British/Italian team snatched the first win of the weekend after a tense finale.
The post-match aperitif at the adjacent beach bar was a great opportunity for the riders to relax with fans, pose for photos and sign autographs before heading back to the Misano World Circuit for the official trackside autograph session which takes place within the Paddock Show before the track familiarisation at 1500 – 1630 later today.
Free Practice sessions for all classes start tomorrow at 0845 local time.
