Expo 2015 - The Coca Cola Pavilion

Coca-Cola participates to Expo Milano 2015 with a Corporate Pavilion that illustrates the heritage, vision and innovation of the Company, in line with the theme of the exhibition: “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.” The Coca-Cola Pavilion, designed by Giampiero Peia (Peia Associati), is close to the Lake Arena and the Italian Pavilion, one of the focal points of Expo located on the North East of the Cardo (lot N3E). A sustainable building, conceived to perfectly reflect the sustainable model of The Coca-Cola Company: from the choice of materials to the technologies used, from the concept of its interiors to its final destination at the end of the exhibition. Consideration for the six-month life span of the Pavilion has led many of the design choices, and specifically the idea of a building that can be completely disassembled after Expo, and rebuilt to be put to a completely different use that will benefit the local community. South East side. The Coca-Cola Pavilion was designed by architect Giampiero Peia (Peia Associati) together with the brand experience agency psLIVE The building is a 12m high cuboid measuring 32m by 20m, which make it the ideal shape and size for a sports hall. The total area is of 1000 sqm on two floors with a Plaza at triple height. It is made from modular elements and materials that are at the same time fully sustainable, reusable and recyclable: wood, glass and water combine to create a space that is simple, and yet highly evocative. The large interior spaces welcome visitors and the exterior image is striking. The glass and wood sidewalls display the famous logo on one side, and the endlessly repeated silhouette of the Contour, the iconic glass bottle that celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2015, on the other. Suspended waterfalls greet visitors both on entry and at the exit. The design of the Pavilion reflects the strictest parameters on sustainability through the use of innovative technical and technological solutions. Expo is held during the warm season, and therefore the building, with its shape and envelope, is based on the concept of passive cooling; natural ventilation will provide cooling through stack ventilation that lets cooler outside air replace the warmer inside air as it rises upwards and out. The result is a massive energy saving and natural comfort for visitors. The “heat island” effect is reduced by the green roofing, a natural vegetation blanket with an innovative, low water consumption system. The roof provides excellent insulation and reduces the need for artificial cooling. Further energy savings are provided inside the building by sensors, LED lighting and energy efficient hydraulics. . The Second Life of the Pavilion after Expo: recyclable, reusable The Pavilion was designed to turn into a basketball court. After the exhibition it will be disassembled and transformed into a sports hall to benefit the local community: this will be the inheritance that the City of Milan will receive from The Coca-Cola Company.
