- Leg 3 from Abu Dhabi, UAE to Sanya, China: 4,670 nautical miles
- Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15: 39,000 miles around the world
- Nine legs: Alicante-Cape Town-Abu Dhabi-Sanya-Auckland-Itajai-Newport RI-Lisbon-Lorient-Gothenburg
- Seven grand prix teams including Olympic Medallists, previous Volvo winners, America’s Cup sailors
- Entries from China, Abu Dhabi, USA, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain and Denmark
The Volvo Ocean Race is the world’s toughest ocean race. Grand Prix sailing by the world’s best sailors, racing day and night for 39,000 miles around the world in nine leg stages.
The 12th edition of the race left from Alicante on Saturday October 11th. Seven teams, 66 sailors and 18 nationalities setting off in identical one design Volvo Ocean 65 racing machines.
The third leg will take the fleet back out into the Indian Ocean, leaving the Gulf for the Indian coast, then to the Malacca and Singapore straits. The fleet will need to choose between the Borneo or Vietnam routes to finally reach the Hainan island in China...
