Lucente by Gupica for Visionnaire during Frieze Art Los Angeles
Designed by Gupica for Visionnaire, the new Lucente lamp collection plays a starring role in an art/design installation presented during Frieze Art Los Angeles, 29 Feb. - 3 March, in the brand’s Los Angeles store at North Robertson Boulevard 144.
Frieze Los Angeles is one of the most important international art fairs, a platform to present innovative works and ideas springing from the creativity of artists and designers around the world. This is the context now hosting Gupica’s designs.
The collection, also presented at the 2023 edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, is the result of a boundary-breaking approach blending the designer’s sophisticated decorative esthetics and experimentation with materials in relation to lighting. The light-diffusing bodies of the lamps are made of a “secondary raw material,” regenerated PMMA – commonly known as Plexiglass – reborn with a totally new appearance. The lamps have the appearance of colorful gems in elegantly simple shapes. Light from an opaque LED source passes through these jewel-like forms, producing a soft, diffused light that enhances the transparency and color of these lamps, handmade to create a unique graduated effect.
“The design is a delicate reflection on the power light has on our emotions and what impressions the refractions of gemstones generate in the viewer when the light meets their multi-faceted, symmetrical surfaces and creates evocative, shimmering, kaleidoscopic effects. The light-diffusing bodies of the lamps are inspired by the famous “baguette” shape of cut diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and rubies, arranged individually, in pairs or in ceiling-to-floor cascades of light,” Gupica explains.
The two versions in the Lucente collection – tables lamps and hanging lamps – are displayed in the Los Angeles store on bases and pedestals like true works of art, producing a delightful play of light, reflections and colors. They are luminous sculptures, contemplative statement pieces for any space.
