Volkswagen ID.4 wins 2024 MotorWeek Drivers' Choice award

Volkswagen of America, Inc. is pleased to announce that the ID.4, the brand’s all-electric compact SUV, has received the 2024 MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice award for Best EV. This is the second Driver’s Choice award for ID.4 after the model was recognized in the 2022 awards.
“When it arrived for 2021, the Volkswagen ID.4 SUV was just the start of all things EV for VW. But, even with a host of full-electrics coming, they still found time this year to make their ground-breaking ID.4 even better,” says John Davis, Creator and Host of MotorWeek. “The 2023 ID.4 has more standard tech, and better materials in a revised interior. And, to add icing on the cake, VW also lowered the price of entry. When you hear folks bemoaning the lack of affordable, state of the art electric vehicles, do them a favor and point to the Volkswagen ID.4, a MotorWeek Best EV of the Year.”
“This is a great win for ID.4 and a strong recognition of our vision for an electric future,” said Petar Danilovic, Senior Vice President, Product Marketing and Strategy, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “Last year, the ID.4 was the fifth-best-selling EV in the United States. We see this momentum for the ID.4 as a solid base as Volkswagen gets ready to introduce two new EVs in the U.S. later this year.”
In selecting the annual Drivers’ Choice Awards, MotorWeek’s editorial staff evaluates more than 150 cars, trucks and sport utility vehicles every year. Winners are chosen based on driving performance, technology, practicality, fuel efficiency and value for the dollar.
The ID.4 is Volkswagen’s first all-electric SUV and the brand’s first global EV. Built on Volkswagen’s MEB electric vehicle architecture—the modular electric drive matrix—it marries the strengths of a purpose-built EV with performance, packaging and value, features that have marked the brand for decades.
The 2023 ID.4 is offered with two battery sizes and two powertrains, with a starting MSRP of $38,995 for the ID.4 Standard model that has a 62kWh battery and an EPA-estimated range of 209 miles. The ID.4 Pro continues with an 82 kWh battery that allows for an EPA-estimated range of 275 miles. A single permanent magnet synchronous motor powers the rear wheels and provides 201 horsepower. ID.4 AWD Pro models add an asynchronous motor to the front axle, resulting in a bump to a max of 295 horsepower as well as all-wheel-drive capability, and have an EPA-estimated range of 255 miles.
Assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee, both the 2023 and forthcoming 2024 ID.4 models are eligible for the full potential Federal Tax Credit of up to $7,500 when equipped with SK On battery components. Based on fueleconomy.gov, Volkswagen is currently the only foreign automaker that has a battery electric vehicle eligible for the full Federal Tax credit, given local assembly and sourcing.
An episode of MotorWeek featuring all 2024 Drivers’ Choice award winners is currently scheduled to air February 10 on PBS and February 18 on MAVTV (check local listings).
