Pablo Atchugarry & Andrea Bocelli: Teatro Del Silenzio

The eighteenth edition of the Teatro del Silenzio entitled "Mariposa" is confirmed for Thursday 27th and Saturday 29th July 2023. The exclusive event, under the artistic direction of Alberto Bartalini, takes place every year on the native hills of Maestro Andrea Bocelli in Lajatico, in the province of Pisa.

City Sound & Events celebrates the resounding success of the past edition, marking the full relaunch of a show that has become an unmissable artistic and cultural tradition. It is a virtuous Italian reality, loved and awaited everywhere, a music festival among the most celebrated internationally, a precious cultural resource with a significant impact on the tourism of the entire region.

The partnership between Teatro del Silenzio and the Contini Art Gallery of Venice and Cortina d’ Ampezzo began in 2021 with Manolo Valdés and continued last year with the Korean artist Park Eun Sun. This year edition, the tenor's much-awaited performance will interact with the artwork of the internationally renowned sculptor Pablo Atchugarry

On the stage of the evocative Theater, "Mariposa de la Vida", a refined steel sculpture by the Uruguayan artist, taut and elongated forms will dominate. Its surface reflects the surrounding environment, in an iridescent interplay between the artwork and the landscape. The audience of this edition's concert-event will have the opportunity to get in touch with the artist's creative world, whose language, while inspired by archetypes of classical, Renaissance, and Baroque sculpture, develops into a harmonious, innovative, and absolutely contemporary aesthetic. Inspired by Michelangelo's teachings, the artist works the material to liberate the forms trapped within it and reveal its most intimate nature, the immaterial soul.

Famous for his marble and bronze sculptures, Pablo Atchugarry sometimes feels the need to experiment with the use of other materials. This is the case with the sculpture present at the Teatro del Silenzio: almost 12 meters high and built of steel, which allows it to interact with the surrounding environment, in a game of changing reflections. The artist's works may appear, at first glance, mere abstract forms, but upon closer observation, they reveal figurative suggestions. The title "Mariposa de la Vida" helps to recognize the stylized shape of a butterfly among the almost geometric profiles of the modules that make up the sculpture. The juxtaposition of the verticality, typical of Atchugarry's sculptures, and the feeling of lightness that the "mariposa" immediately evokes, allows the sculpture to shed its weight and appear almost ready to take flight. To further lighten the structure of the artwork, characteristic cuts or fractures are used, revealing the underlying layers and amplifying the three-dimensionality of the composition.

The delicate ascending compositions, characteristic of the artist, thus delve into complementary existential and formal binomials such as reality and reflection, figuration and abstraction, emptiness and fullness, elevating artistic expression to a primary impulse towards the absolute. This year's edition of the Teatro del Silenzio will therefore confirm a unique show that combines art in its multiple forms, music, and enchanting landscapes, and will undoubtedly leave the audience of Lajatico breathless.

The world's most beloved Italian tenor will be joined by national and international artists, and the symphonic orchestra of the "Luigi Boccherini" Conservatory, giving life once again to an unforgettable evening, directed by Maestro Carlo Bernini.

"It is an unusual and powerful emotion to see every time how many thousands of people, driven by the desire to share an experience of good music and beauty, converge from all over the world right here, in my small Lajatico, in this natural basin that will be returned to nature the day after.

This is what Maestro Bocelli emphasized, also underlining how "what you feel in live performances, on stage but also in the audience, for intensity and quality, for the exchange of energy that is triggered, cannot be replaced in the virtual world. The 2022 edition confirmed how much we need to meet again, to be together and to return to art and culture. Every year the Teatro del Silenzio represents a new challenge, for its complexity and atypical nature. It is a joy to have the confirmation of another edition; it is a privilege to be able to schedule a meeting for July 27th and 29th, with the desire and certainty of experiencing an evening of great emotions together."
