Kanz at the Fuorisalone

In the spectacular setting of via Rossini 3, at the FB lab, the #design studio #kanz, founded by the architect couple Mauro Cazzaro and Antonella Maione, will present their new collections Fugu, Planet and Lume to the public and showcase the most interesting pieces in hand-crafted borosilicate glass and ceramics from the 2017 collection. Active on several fronts in the world of #design, these two designers are the authors of an evolved #design with strong roots in the Made in Italy tradition which never ceases to surprise due to the originality of the concept and the expressive power of its creations. Part of the Ikebana research for beginners, the Fugu vases are slender compositions in glass and metal whose primary aim is to enhance the beauty of freshly cut flowers. They concentrate on the concept of “sustaining” rather than “containing” the flowers. They produce by the skilled hands of local craftsmen in favour of a contamination between contemporary #design and consolidated know-how. The dishes from the new Planet collection, on the other hand, go beyond their nature as two-dimensional objects and gain a third dimension as they are declined into three solid shapes that create the illusion of containing but still preserve the essence of serving dishes. The three “monoliths” stand out on the table and elevate the served meals. After several studies and a careful finetuning of various prototypes, the final version of Lume was born, an original lighting system conceived as a 5-meter long pearl necklace. Lume is a lighting phenomenon by definition, a source of light; but “lume” is also a glass crafting technique used in Venice in the Italian Renaissance and later developed in the 18th century. A versatile lighting system, it is composed by pearls that light up with their own light and by glass bars which, as they melt together, spark unique nuances and reflections in every pearl, in a balanced union between tradition and innovation. Papalina, the ceiling and table lamp in hand-crafted borosilicate glass is proposed this year in a solid-white version. Also in hand-crafted borosilicate glass, #kanz proposes the one-flower vase Aqua, the Take carafe, which evokes a bamboo trunk, the wine glass Bubble in which the bubble, like a breath of air, is different every time in shape and size, and the set of glasses and jug Iride, which are hand-painted on the bottom. Finally, another splendid item is the black ceramic tea-pot Mum, whose lid disappears on the top in favour of a geometric and essential #design.
