On International Women's Day, Nissan surprises employees at its factory in Brazil by empowering them to drive.
For some women, the dream of driving may be blocked by a series of obstacles. Fear of making a mistake, lack of resources and support, or no time when pursuing a career could all prevent someone from getting behind the wheel. At Nissan's Industrial Complex in Resende, Brazil, employees Ana Beatriz Correa, Camila Josué, Letícia Menezes and Michele de Souza help produce cars every day – even though they had never driven one.
To honor International Women's Day, Nissan invited employees at the Resende factory to talk about their dream of driving. A few women were selected for a special driving class with Helena Deyama, a legendary rally driver from Brazil.
"I hope to have made a difference in their lives, encouraging them with my story about overcoming prejudices and all the difficulties to fulfil my dream of driving," said Deyama. "I hope they never forget the responsibility of driving a car and never lose focus on safety. I told them to never underestimate themselves. We are more powerful than we believe."
In addition to meeting Deyama, the women had a practical driving class with an instructor at the Nissan complex. They received a surprise at the end of the class, too. Watch the video below for Nissan's homage to International Women's Day.
