FCA stars at the sixth edition of “Passione Engadina”

  Alfa Romeo and #abarth are sponsors and #fcaheritage grants the public a view of four wonderful cars from its collection.
• This year's is a special edition because it includes two events featuring historic Italian cars: the usual gathering is combined with a tribute to mark the Ferrari brand's 70th birthday.
• The cars selected for the event by Heritage  tell the story of Ferrari's partnerships with the various Group brands over the decades.
• The new #alfaromeo Stelvio, Giulia Quadrifoglio, Giulia Veloce and 4C Spider and the #abarth 124 spider, 595 Competizione and 595 Turismo models will be available for test drives.

 
From 18 to 20 August, St. Moritz will host the sixth edition of "Passione Engadina", an essential appointment for vintage car enthusiasts, with the opportunity for a close look at the beauty and splendour of fine Italian models, with their unique tradition, taste and style. In fact, the gathering is only open to cars produced in Italy up until 1980. What's more, this year "Passione Engadina" actually comprises two events: from 25 to 27 August it will stage a special tribute to the Ferrari models built at Maranello since 1 January 1981. A wonderful gift for the Prancing Horse brand, as it turns 70.
 
The 2017 edition focuses strongly on #alfaromeo and #abarth, the event's sponsors, and #fcaheritage, the Group department dedicated to promoting the historic legacy of FCA's Italian brands, will be there, confirming its interest in this constantly growing sector, popular with all segments of contemporary society and a source of added value for the modern #automotive industry. For the occasion, #fcaheritage will be exhibiting four magnificent cars from its collection, one for each of the brands represented, telling the story of Ferrari's partnerships with the various Group brands over the decades. They are the #alfaromeo GP 16C Bimotore (1935), the #fiat Dino Spider (1969), the #lancia LC2 (1983) and the #abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari (2009)
 
In addition, a display area in the centre of St. Moritz will feature the first SUV in the history of the #alfaromeo brand: Stelvio. This model guarantees unadulterated performance and boundless driving pleasure, thanks to best-in-class mechanical engineering and engine design, which recently earned it the coveted Euro NCAP five star rating. Next to it, a Giulia Quadrifoglio, a concentrate of the new #alfaromeo paradigm and the finest expression of "La Meccanica delle Emozioni". It is equipped with the powerful, all-aluminium 510 HP 2.9 BiTurbo petrol engine that guarantees extraordinary performance: top speed of 307 km/h, 0 -100 km/h acceleration in just 3.9 seconds and peak torque of 600 Nm at 2,500 rpm. Members of the public will even be able to test drive these models, as well as the Giulia Veloce and the 4C Spider.
 
The event is also the ideal opportunity for getting to know the latest innovations from #abarth at first hand. The Scorpion brand will be exhibiting a 124 Spider and, for the first time in Switzerland, the exclusive #abarth 695 Rivale. This special series, conceived in association with Riva, brings together two Italian brands with a shared excellence in technology, innovation, attention to every detail and outstanding performances. Available in a limited edition in sedan and convertible version, the #abarth 695 Rivale can be recognised by its exclusive livery: two-tone paintwork in Riva Evening Blue and Shark Grey, with the delightful touch of two aquamarine stripes running around the waistrail, similar to the "beauty line" that appears on yachts. The satin chrome finish on the door handles, the "695 Rivale" signature on the tailgate and rear wings, and the satin chrome moulding on the tailgate that recalls the sophisticated forms of a yacht, all make this model even more unmistakable, thanks to the stylistic affinity with the side view of the new Riva yachts.
As an added attraction, visitors will be able to drive the 124 spider and the 165 HP 595C Turismo with the top down, as well as the 180 HP 595 Competizione.
 
The following are the descriptions of the cars selected by #fcaheritage.
 
Alfa Romeo GP 16C Bimotore (1935)
Designed by Luigi Bazzi for Scuderia Ferrari, the car was called the "Bimotore" because it is fitted with two engines: as well as the usual straight 8 in front of the cockpit, it also has an additional engine, behind the driver's back and installed in the tail of the car instead of the usual fuel tank. Two of these cars were built in Modena: one with 2905 cc engines for Louis Chiron and another for Nuvolari, also with two straight 8 engines but this time of a massive 3165 cc, capable of delivering a maximum power of 540 HP, giving a top speed of 325 km/h. The car on display comes from the #fcaheritage collection and is conserved at the "Museo Storico di Arese - La macchina del tempo".
 
Fiat Dino Spider (1969)
The Dino was built under an agreement between #fiat and Ferrari, signed to meet the Maranello firm's need to build enough Dino engines (so-called because they were based on a 1956 design by Enzo Ferrari's late son Alfredo, known as Dino) to obtain Formula 2 homologation for the Ferrari Dino 166 F2. The beautifully designed spider bodywork was styled and built by Pininfarina, with lines inspired by the Ferrari model of the same name. The second series, which appeared in 1969, featured minimal changes to its appearance and an updated engine: a 2418 cc V6 producing 180 HP, for a top speed of 210 km/h.
 
Lancia LC 2 (1983)
After the acclaimed 1980 and 1981 world sports-car championship victories achieved by the #lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo in Group 5 and the short career of the LC1 - which competed in world championship Group 6 in 1982 - #lancia prepared a new Group C car (factory code LC2) to race against the powerful Porsche 956 cars in the 1983 championship. The engine which drove it was supplied by Ferrari, which developed a naturally aspirated aluminium V8 with displacement reduced to 2.6 litres, to which #abarth added two KKK turbochargers. The maximum power was 700 HP and the top speed 360 km/h. Light, fast and with a very high torque, the LC2 was obviously going to be competitive and official cars plus one private crew achieved impressive placings: no fewer than thirteen poles and three wins, in the Imola 1000 km, the Spa Francorchamps 24 Hour and the Kyalami 9 Hour races.
 
Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari (2009)
The #abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari is the exclusive special version that confirms the bond between the Scorpion brand and the Maranello constructor, based on many shared values such as a passion for performance, a racing soul, obsessive attention to detail and Italian style. Produced in a numbered limited edition of just over a thousand, the car made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009. Its distinctive features included stylistic touches but above all changes to its substance by the #abarth and Ferrari engineers, starting from the 1.4 Turbo T-Jet 16v engine - its power boosted to over 180 HP - combined with an MTA (Manual Transmission Automated) gearbox, and electro-actuated mechanics with racing-inspired steering wheel controls, which further enhanced the engine's performance with minimal shifting times. The car was fitted with high-performance 17" alloy wheels with a special design inspired by those used on Ferrari cars, and appeared in evocative Modena Yellow or Scuderia Red liveries. The instrument panel, specially produced by Jaeger, was inspired by the instrumentation used on Ferrari cars.
