Aston Martin take strong points haul from 6 hours of Nürburgring

  • #98 #v8vantagegte takes GTE Am podium spot in third
  • #95 and #97 #v8vantagegte entries finish 4th and 7th in GTE Pro
  • Team remain in championship hunt as series leaves Europe

Sunday 16 July, Nürburgring: Aston Martin #racing has continued to claim valuable championship points at the 6 Hours of Nürburgring; the final European round of the 2017 FIA World #endurance Championship.

After taking pole position yesterday, the #98 #v8vantagegte of Pedro Lamy (P), Paul Dalla Lana (C) and Mathias Lauda (A) eventually crossed the line in third place. The result ensures the trio remain just 4 points behind the GTE Am championship leaders with five rounds remaining, after today’s race demonstrated the competitiveness of this year’s GTE Am field.

Lamy said, “That was an incredibly tough race. We were looking strong in terms of overall pace but we were unlucky to lose out on the race win during the second half. We’ve still scored good points this weekend so I am just glad that we have kept ourselves in a good place for the championship. Thank you to the fans who came out today. I’m pleased we were able to put on a good show!”.

Aston Martin #racing also scored valuable championship points with both the #95 of Nicki Thiim (DN) and Marco Sorensen (DN) and #97 of Darren Turner (GB), Jonny Adam (GB) and Daniel Serra (BR) finishing 4th and 7th respectively in the GTE Pro class.

The result ensures the Banbury-based outfit remains in contention for all GT championships ahead of the series’ sixth round in Mexico, with #astonmartin chasing the much-coveted GT Manufacturers championship by just 22 points after today’s result.

Paul Howarth, Team Principal #astonmartin #racing said, “This championship is extremely competitive and once again the entire team has had to work incredibly hard to achieve these results. We now leave Europe in a strong position to challenge for the championship leads, on circuits where the #v8vantagegte and our Dunlop tyres performed well last season. We’ll be hoping to continue to close the gap to our rivals and keep the pressure on”.

Aston Martin #racing returns to the FIA World #endurance Championship in the 6 Hours of Mexico on Sunday 3 September.
