Gazprom’s aerospace technologies to be used for Europe – Western China transport route

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom, and Sergey Kelbakh, Chairman of the Board of the Russian Highways State Company (Avtodor), signed a Cooperation Agreement today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017.

The parties agreed to cooperate on the use of aerospace technologies in developing the infrastructure of the Europe – Western China international transport route.

Specifically, the companies will look into the possibility of creating a single integrated road communication system using the Gazprom-owned SMOTR aerospace system for remote sensing of the Earth and Yamal satellite system. The integrated communication system is supposed to, inter alia, provide all users of the Europe – Western China auto route with high-quality telecommunications services, including Internet access, as well as to keep track of cargo movements and improve transportation safety.
