Office Lounging, Ghislaine Viñas Interior Design features Viccarbe furniture

An #interiordesign project by Ghislaine Viñas #interiordesign for #barrows, a global advertising firm in Manhattan, the inspiration for which crosses the Atlantic and connects two continents, Africa and America. The studio took advantage of the blank canvas offered by the Art Deco style skyscraper located in the Soho area to accommodate the New York offices of a South African marketing agency, #barrows, which was in the process of expanding to the United States. Given Viñas’ own background (raised in Durban) the project provided an opportunity to explore an avant-garde contemporary work environment inspired by both nostalgic and cultural references.
The 215 sq.m. project includes a generous lift-lobby that doubles as a place of work and reception with a cubby-hole for private calls, framed seating with side tables, hanging rope installation and bold colour palette that is picked up by the Piero Lissoni designed pouf, SEASON mini. A central atrium with an open plan staircase to a mezzanine level becomes the neurological heart of the offices which access meeting rooms, offices, kitchen and lounge.

At the centre of this is Arik Levy’s high backed sofa PLATFORM. A statement installation which anchors the space that overlooks the servery area and its blackboard mural. Auxiliary tables including Víctor Carrasco’s SERRA and Patricia Urquiola’s TIERS set the scene for an impromptu meeting or informal dining. The former can be picked up and moved easily while the latter strikes a sculptural decorative note placed strategically at the centre of the plan.
The strong colour palette moves between an aquatic blue and rich foliage green with black signage and detailing, such as the rope that strings between entrance, atrium and conference room where it is resolved suspending six calabash gourds from the ceiling. The palette is reflected by the furniture that joins sky and land, asphalt and African jungles coming together to provide creative inspiration in the vibrant marketing sector.
