Rüsselsheim/Stuttgart. #opel bring home two prizes at the 40th “Best Cars” readers’ choice awards conducted by magazine #auto motor und sport. The trendy #opel #adam cruised to an overall success in the mini-car category with 26 percent of all votes. Opel’s individualization champion thus repeated its successes from 2014 and 2015, completing a title hat-trick.
Opel Chief Marketing Officer Tina Müller accepted the award for the #adam in Stuttgart today. “A readers’ choice award is always of special significance – our potential customers are voting in this case. The #adam is a serial winner at the ‘Best Cars’ and that shows that it is just as popular with classic car fans as it is with the new target audience that we want to approach with our fresh online campaign ADAMyourself.”
Furthermore, #opel also won the “International Paul Pietsch Award 2016” for innovative technology. A jury consisting of 26 editors-in-chief from 21 countries chose Opel’s adaptive IntelliLux LED® matrix light featured in the new #astra as the winner of the renowned award. The special prize is named after Paul Pietsch, a former Grand Prix racers and co-founder of the Motor Presse Stuttgart, and is awarded for outstanding technical concepts. The conditions for the nomination of an innovation are series-production readiness and comprehensible added value for the customers in the areas environment, comfort, safety and economy.
“We are democratizing high-tech solutions, making innovations affordable and integrating them in our volume models. Our new IntelliLux LED® matrix light is the perfect example. By introducing this technology in the compact class #opel is the first manufacturer to offer this highly efficient and powerful lighting system in the compact segment,” said #opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann upon receiving the “International Paul Pietsch Award 2016”.
Consisting of 16 LED segments – eight on each side of the vehicle – the new LED matrix system automatically and constantly adapts the length and distribution of the light beam to every traffic situation. To do so, it works in cooperation with the #opel Eye front camera. As soon as the vehicle leaves the city, full beam is activated permanently – a decisive increase in safety.
However, #astra drivers are not the only ones to benefit. They can enjoy excellent visibility with the adaptive full LED light without glaring other road users. When the camera detects light sources from oncoming or preceding traffic, individual LEDs in the relevant zone are deactivated, simply ‘cutting out’ the area around the vehicles. The rest of the road and its surroundings remain brightly illuminated.
