The first Italian fast charging station in a city centre is in Milan…and it’s Spin8 - Charging with Spin8 is simple and fast: it is for every one

Spin8, the Italian start up - named after the familiar name for “plug” in Italian - is
focused on the development of electric mobility, and it is presenting today its first
fast charging station, located in the Parking of via Ariberto, 4, within the city
centre.
“No sooner said than done. We had announced it at the IAA-Smart Mobility World
in Frankfurt – says Karin Fischer, CEO – and we’ve successfully achieved it. The
location has been carefully selected. Milan has demonstrated a strong drive for
innovation in the mobility sector in recent years and electric mobility is the new
challenge for the cultural, economic and environmental impact it brings. The EV
growth in Italy has lagged behind for a set of reasons and from now on Milan, with
Spin8, will drive the change ramping it up. Electric mobility is fully part of the
modern urban lifestyle and for Milan - as the global fashion capital and the recent
EXPO city on sustainability – it is a must have.”
“We very much welcome this new innovative and technological service – says
Pierfrancesco Maran, Deputy Mayor for Mobility of the City of Milan - the future of
cities goes to “zero emissions” and I think that Milan has gained public high
environmental sensibility and can beat the electric vehicle industry challenge. This
fast charge is a very important service for EV owners and an incentive to potential
new buyers.”
The charger – the hardware
The charger selected by Spin8 for its first station is state-of-the-art hardware
technology and it chargers all EVs on the market. It provides AC charging at 43kw
and DC at 50kw both CCS Combo 2 and Chademo.
The IT platform and the European roaming
Today Spin8 is presenting the beta release of the Spin8 app. That is the essential
element of the more complex IT software architecture, named pivot, that Spin8 is
developing in order to provide an end-to-end service to the EV recharge
infrastructure that can be easily integrated to the stakeholders’ IT and business
needs. The app makes the recharge experience simple and easy allowing to
start&stop charging sessions directly at the charger, as well as seamlessly paying
for the service. Furthermore, for the first time in Italy, the Spin8 charger will provide
access via intercharge. By scanning the QR code at the charger, EV drivers can
seamlessly start and stop the charging session. The first release of the app is
foreseen for February 2016 and it will provide a broader array of services to all EV
drivers including roaming service - to and from Europe - as part of the intercharge network of Hubject. "The interchange network creates powerful synergies among
its partners.- declares Thomas Dieber, Hubject CEO - Spin8 is one of the upcoming
Italian emobility players and will enrich our partner network from now on. Another
important step towards a customer-friendly emobility in all over Europe."
As of today the analogical processes for accessing charging stations and the
fragmented landscape of service providers is the greatest limit to growth of the EV
market. Car drivers are used to the accessibility and openness of petrol stations
and that level of simplicity they expect; and toward that level of simplicity Spin8 is
aiming at.
