The Artecinema festival will celebrate its 20th annual

On Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the San Carlo Theatre in Naples at 8.00 p.m, Artecinema will celebrate its 20th annual.The festival, curated by Laura Trisorio, is scheduled to continue at the Augusteo Theatre from 4.00 p.m. to midnight on October 16, 17 and 18.
A selection of documentaries on the leading artists, architects and photographers of the last fifty years will be presented in the categories of Art and Environs, Architecture and Photography.
The films tell the stories of artists. Biographies, interviews and narratives mounted with archive materials provide spectators with a penetrating insight into the world of art, accompanied by the protagonists, as they view the artists at work in their own studios or behind the scenes at important international exhibits.
The films will be shown, many for the first time in Italy, in their original languages with simultaneous interpretations provided. Moreover, encounters and debates will be held with the directors, artists and producers. 
During the inaugural evening at the San Carlo Theatre, the following films are to be shown for the first time in Italy; Art War by Marco Wilms on graffiti as the only instrument of protest in Egypt during the Arab Spring and Jeff Koons: Diary of a Seducer by Jill Nicholls which details the activities of the most controversial artists of our time during the preparations for his recent exhibits at the Whitney Museum in New and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
At Augusteo Theatre the selection of films includes documentaries on Bill Viola, Jan Fabre, Marc Quinn, Marc Chagall, Niki de Saint Phalle, Man Ray, James Turrell, Tadashi Kawamata, Tania Bruguera, Per Kirkeby; on Tracey Emin in a commentary on the work of Louise Bourgeois; on the work entitled “Posatoi” by Francesco Arena in the Olnick-Spanu Collection in the Hudson Valley; on Žilda and graffiti art in Naples, on Richard Hamilton, the  Pop Art pioneer who reproduced Marcel Duchamp’s “The Large Glass”; on Ai Weiwei and his extensive retrospective exhibit entitled Evidence inaugurated in Berlin in April of 2014; on Etienne-Jules Marey and his work in representing movement in the early twentieth century; on the incredible story of Jacques Jaujard the director of the Louvre who managed to hide museum’s works of art before Hitler’s arrival during the Second World War, thus preventing that a huge heritage was stolen; and, additionally, on the “degenerate art” so despised by Hitler and the sensational discovery of an art treasure kept hidden by an elderly man in his apartment in Munich; on the participation of Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, Frank Gehry, Dominique Perrault and Norman Foster in the architectural design competition for the National Musuem of Art in Andorra, on female architects Annabelle Selldorf, Farshid Moussavi, Odile Decq, Marianne McKenna and Kathryn Gustafson who have designed some of the world’s most significant contemporary architecture; on the well-known US photographer Dorothea Lange author of the 1936 photo Migrant Mother which became the icon of the American Great Depression; on the Art Foundry in St. Gallen that transposes the ideas of famous international artists such as Urs Fischer, Katharina Fritsch, Fischli&Weiss, Paul McCarthy and Hans Josephsohn in precious material.

In celebration of the Festival’s twentieth anniversary, in addition to the showings normally held in the two theatres, other events have also been scheduled:
• Showings for inmates at the Secondigliano prison
• Morning showings for school groups in collaboration with the French Institute Naples
• Encounters with directors at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples
The complete Festival programme will be available in mid-September
